Mason Cathey

Jesse Owens Classic - PR 800, 1500 #2 All-Time PB

     4:27.27     4th

     Splits: 16.9-18.4 (35.3)

                18.7-18.4 (37.1) [72.4]

                17.6-17.8 (35.4)

                17.5-17.5 (35.0) [70.4] [2:22.8]

                17.6-17.5 (35.1)

                17.2-17.6 (34.8) [69.9] [3:32.7]

                18.0-17.9-17.5 (53.4) [4:27.1]

NOTES: With "sit & kick" pre-race plans, execution was very good tactically

then "no kick today" reality.  Likely training phase related. Not a

                 concern in the bigger picture.

     2:10.89     10th

     Splits: 13.9-15.0 (28.9)

                15.5-16.2 (31.7) [60.6]

                16.7-16.7 (33.4) [1:34.0]

                17.7-18.9 (36.6) [2:10.6]

NOTES: rabbited the race, lead the field to 600 then finished in a PR.

Good come back the day after a "flat" 1500.  Someone might

have a big 800 PR waiting later in the season.

GINA Relays - PR 3000S, Meet & Stadium Record

     10:17.24     1st

Splits: (ref inside pit) 22.7(+)-19.2-18.6-18.3(2b) (78.8)

                                      18.5-18.4-19.4-18.6(2b) (74.9) [2:33.7]

                                      19.4-19.0-19.3-19.2 (2b) (76.9) [3:50.6]

                                      19.3-19.7-20.2-20.5 (2b) (79.7) [5:10.3]

                                      20.8-21.6-22.1-21.4 (2b) (85.9) [6:36.2]

                                      21.7-22.4-21.8-21.4 (2b) (87.5) [8:03.7]

                                      22.2-23.1-21.9-21.5 (2b) (88.7) [9:32.4]

                                      23.6-21.2 (44.8) [10:17.2]

NOTES: no race setting re competition so over ran steeple fitness

without early awareness... bombed last water barrier.

Very good barrier work generally thus race management

the key to a USA National qualifying mark in 2009.

Sea Ray Relays - PR 1500

     4:23.50     2nd

     Splits: 34.5 - 35.5 (70.0)

                36.1 - 35.6 (71.7) [2:21.7]

                36.0 - 17.3 - 16.8 (70.1) [3:31.8]

                16.3 - 18.2 - 17.1 (51.6) [4:23.4]

NOTES: lost a little time reading Hazel Clark's resume during the race...

a lesson for the future.  Went in seeded 15th.  Good competitive effort.

Adrian Myers

Jesse Owens Classic - 1500 #2 All-Time PB & Invitational Mile rabbit (1000)

     3:53.15     12th

     Splits: 14.1-15.1 (29.2)

                14.5-16.0 (30.5) [59.7]

                15.6-15.7 (31.3)

                15.1-15.6 (30.7) [62.0] [2:01.7]

                16.0-15.9 (31.9)

                15.6-15.6 (31.2) [63.1] [3:04.8]

                15.7-15.8-16.7 (48.2) [3:53.0]

NOTES: hesitating to explore the third 400 then think the final 300...

academics ahead of actions with this race distance but it will come.

     1000     NA

     Splits: 1.7 (Mile start)

                13.7-14.2 (27.9)

                14.3-14.7 (29.0) [56.9]

                14.6-14.6 (29.2)

                14.7-15.2 (29.9) [59.1] [1:56.0]

                15.1-15.5 (30.6) [2:26.6]

NOTES: very good double back and definite indicator of future fast 1500 with

"academics" needing to catch up with fitness potential. No worries

as it will come while 800m focused training continues.

GINA Relays - 800

     1:52.72     6th

     Splits: 13.1-13.5 (26.6)

                14.9-13.9 (28.8) [55.4]

                14.4-13.6 (28.0) [1:23.4]

                14.6-14.5 (29.1) [57.1] [1:52.5]

NOTES: Wind was in play but not such as to excuse tactical errors laying off

the pace especially when early season advantage is strength and

weakness is no speed work in training yet.  Lesson learned hopefully.

Sea Ray Relays - DMR 1600 leg

     4:12.2(1600 leg)     7th

     Splits: 29.8-31.5 (61.1)

                47.9-16.1 (64.0) [2:05.1]

                16.3-15.5-17.4-16.1 (65.3) [3:10.4]

                15.8-15.0-15.8-15.2 (61.8) [4:12.2]

NOTES: cautious and conservative due to lack of experience at distance...

competed fairly well last 400m... relay rust

Austin Wechter

Billy Hayes Invitational - 400H #3 All-Time PB

     52.38     3rd

     Splits: 6.25-4.09-4.33-4.37-4.20 (23.24) 4.67-4.48-4.65-4.80-4.94-5.40

NOTES: Excellent job managing big weather delay.  Technically left time

at the startline... with a month of "speed" planned we'll add in

preparation for using starting blocks for the first time this year also!

Jesse Owens Classic - PR 400

     48.01     8th

     Splits: 11.3-11.1 (22.4) 12.5-12.9 (25.4)

NOTES: Standing start & recoverying from nasty cold... good solid outing

Demonstrating base is ready for a month of speed and new PRs at 400H & 400.

GINA Relays - sick

Mark - NA    Place - NA

     Splits: NA

NOTES: lined up because it was early season and "you never know"

Sea Ray Relays - 400H Best Season Opener All-Time & DMR 400 leg

     52.75     3rd

     Splits: 6.29-4.16-4.46-4.35-4.57 (23.83) 4.50-4.57-4.61-4.82-4.75-5.45

NOTES: Went in seeded 21st.  Very good competitive effort. Handled

                  big storm delay very well.

     48.4 (400 leg)     7th

     Splits: 11.8-11.0 (22.8)

                12.8-12.8 (25.6) [48.4]

NOTES:"OK" double back from 400H... relay rust

Juan Carrillo

Billy Hayes Invitational - PR 1500

     3:52.73     11th

     Splits: 14.0-29.7-15.0 (58.7)

                15.3-30.9-15.4 (61.6) [2:00.3]

                15.4-31.5-16.2 (63.1) [3:03.4]

                15.9-33.2 (49.1) [3:52.5]

NOTES: Coach & athlete let meet management's catch-up clerking catch

them off guard thus Juan was rushed in warm-up and never felt

comfortable. Lesson learned: better in this setting to be warming

up a little too early than too late!  On a "bad day" this result bodes

well for a fast 1500 in the future.

Jesse Owens Classic - 800 Best Season Opener All-Time

     1:52.21     13th

     Splits: 13.1-13.4 (26.5)

                13.3-13.7 (27.0) [53.5]

                14.0-14.2 (28.2)[1:21.7]

                14.8-15.5 (30.2) [58.5] [1:52.0]

NOTES: race execution was right on through 600. Race fitness will be ready

for PR's in early June based on this test outing. Good training

patience in play since arriving in INDY in March for a late start on 2009 season.

GINA Relays - 1500 rabbit (1100)

     2:45.6     NA

     Splits: 13.2-15.2-15.4-15.5 (59.3)

                14.9-15.5-14.8-15.2 (60.4) [1:59.7]

                15.3-15.3.15.3 (45.9) [2:45.6]

NOTES: relatively relaxed and comfortable... indicates a future in the

1500 below 3:50 at a minimum.  very good job rabbiting the race.

Christopher Hendrix-Buxton

GINA Relays - 800

     1:54.77     13th

     Splits: 13.3-13.4 (26.7)

                14.8-14.2 (29.0) [55.7]

                15.0-13.9 (28.9) [1:24.6]

                15.0-14.9 (29.9) [58.8] [1:54.5]

NOTES: Too conservative from 4 to 5 and allowed traffic issues

then burned to hot for 45 meters making up error.

                  Hopefully a lesson learned.

Sea Ray Relays - DMR 1200 leg

     3:08.1 (1200 leg)     7th

     Splits: [2:04.5]

               15.7-15.1-16.5-16.3 (63.6) [3:08.1]

NOTES: hesitated tactically from 400 to 800... relay rust

Ricardo Bell

Jesse Owens Classic - 800 rabbit (500)

     1:05.3     NA

     Splits: 12.4-12.6 (25.0)

                13.0-13.4 (26.4) [51.4]

                13.9 [1:05.3]

NOTES: Welcome back Ricky!  Nice smooth 500m effort in rabbiting this race.

Goal #1 for this comeback season is already in-hand (fit enough to

start a full training cycle for 2010 season) so everything else is a

bonus.  Up next a slow section 800m or fast 600 rabbiting on May 30th.

Jacob Koczman

Sea Ray Relays - DMR 800 leg

     1:51.9     7th

     Splits: 25.2-14.6-14.1 (53.9) 14.5-14.1-14.9-14.5 (58.0) [1:51.9]

NOTES: quick first 200 likely hurt the 400 to 700 segment... relay rust.

COACH’S TEAM NOTES: American High Performance Series kicks off May 30. Show Time...

Who wants to go to Eugene?!

Billy Hayes Invitational - Experience with previous meet delays pays off

for Austin as he managed a big delay very well and posted his fastest time

in two years and was just hundredths of a second off of his three year old

PR.  A month of speed work and Austin has an opportunity for his first USA

National Qualifier.  Juan took a second step forward toward understanding

the 1500 with a modest PR on a "bad day".

Jesse Owens Classic - Good Team Camp location and dynamics over the

course of two day meet.  Very good experiences with rabbiting by Mason,

                           Ricky & Adrian.

GINA Relays - Good individual outings by Mason & Juan.  Team Camp area

could have been better re distractions being in  the crowd.  Second week

in a row provided a great experience in learning to manage the unexpected

as the meet was visited with a storm delay.

Sea Ray Relays - good individual efforts by Austin & Mason.

Good team spirit and attitude with the group.

DMR guys had a good attitude though a lot of rust re relay racing BUT

that is the reason we were there running a relay... next year on the

men's side of the roster we will be looking for a sub-9:40 which

would result in a respectable new club record for the event.
